Fans of Lorde, the teenage pop star from New Zealand will be excited to know she’ll be performing during InfieldFest at the Preakness on May 17, 2014.
Her song “Royals” is the hit off “Pure Heroine,” that is a mainstay in the top 20 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
InfieldFest is a multi-entertainment festival that features nationally-recognized musicians and bands, two stages, MUG Club and unique attractions throughout the day as fans await the running of the Preakness Stakes.
For 2014 the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports” will also be the “Largest Video Two Minutes in Sports”.
Churchill Downs has a $12 million effort underway to install the world’s largest video board at their race track. Construction should begin in December and end by March 2014.
Attendees at the Kentucky Derby won’t have to worry about having a good view of the races anymore with this huge video board that will be installed halfway along the backstretch.
How big are we talking? The video board is bigger than 3 basketball courts, 2200 46 flat screen TV, and 320000 iPhone 5 screens. The screen measure a whopping 171 ft wide and 90 ft high.
And this is no simple installation either. The support structure must hold up over 1 million pounds, withstand winds of 85 MPH, and be designed with the jockeys and horses safety in mind.
We applaud the effort and appreciate the continuous improvements being made at Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby and other races..
“Since 2005 we have invested over $160 million in improving our fans’ experience,” said Kevin Flanery, president of Churchill Downs Racetrack. “Along with our current $15 million Grandstand Terrace project we are investing over $27 million this year to make Churchill Downs not only the best venue for Thoroughbred racing’s biggest events, the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby, but one of the premier sports and entertainment venues anywhere in the world.”
